The Little Mermaid

Molly was in her school play again this year!  Her teacher does a double cast that means you have a specific part one night and then a different part the other night.  For Molly, that meant she was an ocean dancer one night and a mersister the other night.

It was a digital program so I took some screenshots.

Here's a few photos as an ocean dancer in action. They had long scarfs attached to fans to represent the moving water.

Ocean dancers are on screen most of the show, but they have a big dance number with the beginning overture and also in the middle of Part of Your World.

Molly worked so hard on this play for months, and we are so proud of her!  It's always so much fun to watch her on stage and see the results of all of her hard work. She did an amazing job on both parts!

Reflections Winner

Molly won an award of excellence for both her 2-D and her 3-D art this year!  She won $15 each for both project and got a ton of coupons.  The most exciting coupon was that for each project, she got 2 free tickets to a show at The Ruth (total of 4 tickets), and now we're going to The Addams Family next fall for the cost of only 1 ticket!

For one of Elliott's assignments, he had to come up with three chemical reactions.

He also had to make a Thanksgiving dish.  He picked banana cream pie.

He also wrote five very sweet thank you notes.

It's so nice to have the homework be something much more fun this year!

Potato Derby

Our library hosted a fun potato derby for teens last month!  Miles put wiggly eyes on his but didn't have much racing success.  Molly and her friend Whitney won the award for Most Creative with their very cute potato turkey!

Saturday on the Delta

Our family went to see the newly reconstructed Provo River delta and park on a beautiful November morning.

We started out at their very adorable river-themed playground.

From there, we took a walk around the delta.  Before we went to the park, I thought they had just built the park around a long-existing delta.  However, we found out that many years ago, earlier residents had buried the delta and made the river go into just one narrow channel for irrigation.  They've spent the past many years carefully rebuilding the delta, nourishing the ecosystem, and bringing the June sucker back from extinction.  That made this even more beautiful and peaceful to me!

The delta trail joins up with the original Provo River parkway (which goes from Bridal Veil Falls to Utah Lake).  On the map, it looked like it would be a similar length and that would be fine so that Molly could go hang out with some friends that afternoon.  It turns out we took a 1.2 mile walk to the delta in the first place and a 2.6 mile walk back.  It was a beautiful walk, but we were trying to take it really fast and it made Molly late. Whoops!

The 40.35 Degrees Northern Lights

I never would have thought we were far enough north to see the aurora borealis!  We got a message one night from one of Miles's youth leaders that the aurora was visible from our houses so we all ran outside as fast as we could.  It was visible with the naked eye and even prettier with the camera. This is just from our backyard :)

99 to Beat

We have recently been really enjoying the show 99 to Beat as a family.  They start with 100 contestants and then they do a bunch of challenges where whoever finishes last is eliminated.  One of the challenges was to build a house of cards. It looked fun, so we tried to do it as a family after the episode.  This is where we learned that A) it's hard to do these things under pressure and B) I would not do this at bedtime.

Molly was determined to master the four layer house the next day, so she came back and did it!
