There are always SO many events during the last week of school! One of the things I volunteered with was field day. Field day has a mix of teacher-led games and some more open play. I basically walked around the open play and ended up basically taking pictures of my children throwing hula hoops.
Elliott was SO pumped to throw stuff at me.
Then, Elliott decided to throw multiple hula hoops.
He eventually joined a hula hoop train.
So thrilled for the blue popsicle!
Molly started out with chalk art.
Then moved on to hula huts.
Then I made the critical error of telling her about how Elliott spent the whole time throwing them at me, so Molly also wanted to.
Her friends also wanted in on the fun.
Molly and Esther decided to throw their hula hoops at each other.
The next day was the mini marathon. I'm not sure that they really needed parent volunteers at all, but I did cheer and hand out the third grade girl's medals.
Elliott does not love running, but at the end, he heard two boys behind him say "At least we can beat Elliott!" Elliott was suddenly motivated to run his fastest. He could then hear them say "Why is Elliott so fast?". He was excited to beat them.
I helped with the chalk art at the third grade party and then we saw this amazing straight rainbow in the clouds! A lot of kids then switched to make straight rainbow chalk art.
We had good seats for Elliott's dance festival and about as good as we could get for Molly (she's behind the tall girl in red and white, and then she's a flyer in the middle of it)
The junior high is kind of a waste for the last week. Miles did have a major math test, but otherwise almost nothing and all of his friends also bailed on the parties. I took him to Hruska's Kolaches instead of Lagoon and then Slab Pizza instead of the yearbook signing party.
This is one dot for every day of school, kindergarten through 9th grade.

Last day of elementary school!
Last day of third grade! Elliott wanted me to note that he was very excited to be done.
We were leaving on vacation right after the school year, so we had to run some errands. Did you know that safes are the ultimate 9-year-old entertainment?
Every time I thought the roads could not get worse this year, THEY DID. The majority of our road work problems have been in Lindon because that's where the kids go to school. However, in mid-May, Pleasant Grove started doing road work on the street that leads from our house to State Street and the freeway. The people directing traffic were doing it well before and after our road, so it was very difficult to tell if you could turn at all. That being said, they finished all of the worst of it within three days so it was at least a short-lived difficult.
The same cannot be said for Lindon. I showed up to bring a money envelope to school on Monday morning only to find that the entire road in front of the school was ripped up and most of the road directly in front of the school was blocked. It was four days before the end of school, but apparently they couldn't wait.
You can see how it is basically a dirt road!
And the cones are blocking off everything in front of the school. 20 minutes before school started, so no one could drop off their kids and the busses couldn't even get in.
The entire last week of school was a challenge. The drive itself wasn't great for my low-clearance car, and then there wasn't parking for all of the special end of year events.
At this point, I'm just crossing my fingers that it will be all better by August so it's not a second school year of road work!
After a game of Here to Slay, Elliott spent a lot of time making a very careful ranking of all the Here to Slay villain cards.
What you can't really see is that this card is far, far away from all the other cards to show how little he likes it. It's also sitting on a fire game because he thinks it should be in a fire.
You'll notice that towards the end, they are starting to sit on different levels of pedestals.
His very favorite got not only the highest pedestal, but also a stuffie (no higher honor from Elliott), and a crown. Elliott takes his games very seriously!
Miles was invited to ninth grade awards night to receive his award for being on the High Honor Roll this year! It was a little stressful getting there because I lost my keys (they had fallen in a box of reimbursement envelopes that I had specifically taken out of my purse so I wouldn't lose any money, but it made me lose my keys). My mom saved the day and drove us at the last minute!
They didn't mention this at awards, but he actually had High Honor Roll every semester for all three years of junior high. Not only that, he actually had a full 4.0 every semester. High Honor Roll is 3.9 or higher but he did even better :)
Molly graduated from sixth grade! I was asked along with another mom to head up the graduation committee. Our job was to make sure it was decorated and that the kids had a really fun dance with food, glow accessories, etc. Luckily, tons of parents volunteered to help and we had a huge crew! Everything turned out great! We had a "Peace Out, Sixth Grade!" theme with sixties decorations, but in a black light/neon color scheme to make it extra fun for the party.
Mostly, I was in charge of the budget and a bunch of weird behind-the-scenes things, but my one creative contribution was this photo backdrop. It says Congratulations Groovy Grads but you can only see that from up close. It was honestly very stressful to make and this is also how I found out that Walmart and Target sell two completely different color packages of neon paper.
One of the moms made more than a hundred little sixties shapes and several were on special glow paper. It really made the gym look so cute! The kids walked through this arch on the way to get their diplomas.

We woke up early to put in this yard sign before the kids showed up for the day.
This garland is the cutest. It has special black light crepe paper worked into the garland that you can't see here, but looked fun for the party. It took about nine people more than four hours to make and even longer to hang up!!!!
