One Day, One City

We spent a day in Salt Lake trying to use up activities on our Connect Pass and our Female Foodie pass.  It was a very full, very fun day!

We started out with a delicious breakfast from Feldman's deli.  We've had lunch there before and loved it, so we weren't surprised that breakfast was also a winner.

This is salt bagel with cream cheese, strawberry blintzes, corned beef omelet with latkes, and bagel beignets.  All delicious!


Our next stop was the Salt Lake City main library.  We usually stop there every time we go to the Leonardo because they share a parking garage.

The view from the roof is great AND it was a pit stop on the Amazing Race!

The library has an amazing children's section.  It has so many books and lots of fun places where you can read them.

The library plaza also has an awesome fountain.

The Leonardo was on our Connect Pass!  We've been several times because we had a season pass a few years ago, but it had been a while and we had a lot of fun at the exhibits.  One of our favorite things was having a few different family contests.  We had a family long jump contest.  Miles can beat me by a full foot!  We also played timeline.  They have an invention timeline and I would yell out an invention and everyone would have to find it.  Vending machine was a particularly tricky one.

Molly has loved this wind tunnel for years and spent a lot of time here.

They wanted you to invent animals, and Elliott asked me to draw him a dino/flamingo/bear.

Neither Gerrit nor I are capable of drawing a self-portrait. (My picture is to the right, with my face for proof that I can't draw self-portraits.  I don't think you need a comparison to show that Gerrit's doesn't look like him.)

Our next stop was a late lunch/dinner at the Lion House Pantry. This was also on the Connect Pass. The rolls have a well-earned reputation for being delicious!  The rest of the food we got was also pretty tasty.

We took a tour of the Beehive House.  I took this tour with my Grandma and my family when I was a kid and I think it used to be more fun.  I remember a kid's scavenger hunt and a piece of candy, and both of those elements were sadly missing from this tour.

Our last stop was RubySnap.  They had a deal where you got 4 free cookies if you bought a dozen, so we had a LOT of cookies.

Koi Can Be Territorial: A Day in the Gardens

One of the options on our Connect Pass was the Thanksgiving Point Gardens.  This is probably the first time I've gone to the Gardens NOT for some sort of special event and it's a very different place...quiet and peaceful.  It was a little less exciting because the tulips were gone but they hadn't necessarily replanted in all of the places, but a lot of the places were still very pretty.

 Why would this be a thing?

 We saw a rabbit in the vegetable garden!

 One of our very favorite activities was feeding the koi.  One of our family's favorite shows is Dwight in Shining Armor.  In our favorite episode, one of the characters buys koi for his moat.  He wants something vicious.  The pet store owner says "Koi can be territorial."  We'd like to submit that koi can also be kind of terrifying if you are trying to feed them.  They will swarm.  They will be aggressive.  They will actually leave the water to get the stupid fish food pellets.

 Elliott threw an enormous tantrum because we didn't take his stroller up the stairs.  He ran away.  He screamed.  Otherwise, everyone was very well behaved.

 We brought the stroller for Elliott and to carry extra stuff.  Apparently it also works for 10 year olds.

 Apparently, the stroller also works for three kids at a time.

School's Out!

We've successfully finished fourth grade and first grade!  Here's a few pictures from the last days of school.

The kids have a school dance festival every year.  Molly's dance was to "Geronimo" and Miles's dance was "On Top of the World" by Greek Fire (Miles would like to point out it is not Imagine Dragons).

Molly danced with a lot of enthusiasm and luckily was right in front of me for a little bit!

Miles started out so far away I could barely see his head so I was happy that he, too, ended up right in front of me for part of the dance.

 Elliott was relatively patient for the dance festival but very happy to play on the playground when it was done.
